President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin today at U.S. Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. The two presidents will discuss conditions for a ceasefire in the Ukraine war. President Trump has made peace between Russia and Ukraine one of the priorities of his second term.
President Trump said ahead of the meeting, “There’s a very good chance that we’re going to have a second meeting, which will be more productive than the first, because the first is I’m going to find out where we are and what we’re doing.”
The president said, “There will be very severe consequences“ should the Russian president not follow through on stopping the war.
Russia and Ukraine traded more attacks in the days leading up to the meeting, as President Trump has indicated that some land may have to be swapped to achieve peace.
